Thirteen Items NOT to Forget on a Physics Test

     1)  No units = No marks

    2)  No caps for units!

Example: Do NOT use “M” for meters. Use “m” for meters.
The only units that are capitalized are the ones named after a person.
Example: N, J, W, C are all in caps.

    3)  Use square [  ] brackets for direction.

Example: Put [W] on the left and [E] on the right.

    4)  Include the direction where indicated.

         Examples: [N], [S], [E], [W]

    5)  Missing Steps = Missing Marks

          Example: Use the G R A S P or G U E S S steps to solve problems.

    6)  Remember to express units as a fraction.
Example: Do NOT write ½ like this! The dividing line must be horizontal.

    7)  Steps go down (vertically) NOT across.
Example: Your equal signs should line up.

     8)  Avoid “chain calculations” across your page.
Your steps need to descend vertically down your page.
“Chaining” is only acceptable when converting units in the  “Givens”.

    9)  Don’t forget the vector signs above any quantity with direction.
Example:  Draw an arrow above the “v” in velocity.

   10)  Don’t forget to check for significant digits!
Example: If the least signficant digits in the measurements are two digits,
your answer must NOT have more than two significant digits.

   11)  Remember to do a unit check and cancellation(s).
(to make sure you are using the correct units in your answer).
Example:  Make sure your units are the right ones asked for.
Do not use kilograms if the problem asks for grams.

   12)  Manipulate your equation first, to isolate the variable you are solving for.
This will make your problem solving a lot easier!

13) *Don't round off any numbers until the FINAL step!!
Remember to watch for significant digits!!
Example: Keep the BIG numbers until the FINAL step!!
